Fab and free ideas to do with the kids this October half term

How is it that time already? October half term is upon us and you need to think of things to do to get the kids out the house and stop you going crazy.

Here is a quick list of ideas to get you all out the house and spending some quality time together.

1. Beach walk & collecting shells

There is nothing nicer than a long beach walk especially in Autumn. Getting the little ones out in fresh sea air racing along the sand and collecting shells. You can take the shells home and get arty… ask them to make a picture describing their day using the shells they collected.

2. Kid friendly museums

If we have a couple of rainy days (this is the UK we are talking about!) then head to your nearest museum. There are some great child friendly museums such as The Natural History Museum, The Science Museum and my personal favourite The V&A of Childhood. Take a packed lunch and you’re good to go!

3. Fun on the farm

Research your local farm and see if they are doing an open day.  A lot of famers like to get the kids involved in feeding the animals and learning all about life on the farm. Memories your little ones will never forget.

4. Pumpkin picking

Of course, Halloween is upon us. Get the kids out to your local pumpkin patch where they can select their own pumpkin to take home and decorate ready for 31st October. Double bonus, you get to make some delicious soups and stews with the leftovers.

5. Woodland trails

Find a wood near you and prepare an awesome nature adventure. Create a sheet of paper full of wildlife and plant pictures that they have to find and tick off their list. You could even give them an old school disposable camera they can snap away with… the results will be brilliant.
